The long-debated Consumer Rights Bill received royal assent yesterday (26th March 2015). A copy of the Act is available here: Consumer Rights Act 2015. The Act follows lengthy consultation on an overhaul of the civil law relating to consumer remedies for defective goods and services and also addresses digital content, unfair contract terms and enforcement powers for regulatory bodies. The majority of the provisions are expected to come into force in October 2015, although some will take effect from 27 May 2015 (see SI 2015/965 Consumer Rights Act commencement order).
