Gough Square Chambers has been ranked as the sole Band 1 set for Consumer Law by Chambers & Partners for over 30 years. Over that time, Members of Chambers have represented clients in some of the most significant and high-profile Consumer Law cases in both the civil and criminal jurisdictions.
Chambers has extensive experience in major investigations and enforcement proceedings brought by the Competition and Markets Authority, Trading Standards departments, and the Advertising Standards Authority. Members have acted for businesses in almost all of the CMA’s sectoral investigations into consumer infringements, represented National Trading Standards teams in leading consumer enforcement cases, and advised HM Government on the development of UK Consumer Law.
Members carry out a wide range of non-contentious work, advising businesses and regulators on consumer contracts, unfair terms, advertising and marketing practices, pricing and sales models, distance selling, cancellation rights, and consumer rights.
Members of Chambers include the editors and contributors to Consumer and Trading Standards: Law and Practice (the Pink Book) and the Consumer and Trading Law Reports (CTLC).
