Junior Clerk

Salary: £19,000 per annum

Gough Square Chambers – a specialist regulatory set recognised by the independent legal directories as the market leader in consumer law, as well as being ranked or having members ranked for banking and finance law, financial services law, travel law, product liability and licensing law – seeks an enthusiastic and ambitious junior clerk to join its highly regarded clerking team.

Our barristers regularly act in some of the most prominent and important cases in the sphere of regulatory law – in both the civil and criminal jurisdictions – and appear in courts and tribunals of all levels across the UK.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a professional and client focused approach, good communication skills, excellent team work, IT skills, an ability to follow protocols and a high attention to detail, as well as a genuine interest in a career as a barristers’ clerk.

The applicant will have the following:

• A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• A focus on excellent client care with a professional and service-orientated approach;
• Strong initiative and willingness to work in a pressurised environment;
• Team ethic and ambition to learn and progress.

The job will include the following:

• Dealing with the delivery, collection and return of papers;
• Administrative tasks including DX, post and stationary monitoring;
• Updating digital records;
• Handling and dealing with general enquiries;
• Assisting the more senior clerks with tasks as required.

Applications for pupillage commencing in October 2019 have now closed.

We offer up to two mini-pupillages per year. Each mini-pupillage will last for two to three days within early July or early September. Applications may be submitted at any time but will only be considered during the period between 1st May and 1st June.

Mini-pupillage is not a pre-requisite for applying for pupillage at Gough Square. We only offer limited places due to the small size of chambers and the nature of our practice.

Mini-pupillages are available to those who have a keen interest in applying for pupillage at Gough Square and wish to spend a few days with chambers.
