“Gough Square Chambers has ‘a strong reputation for banking disputes with a regulatory focus – clients do not need to be persuaded to instruct counsel from this set’” – Legal 500
“One interviewee describes the set as ‘the chambers for financial services disputes, much in demand by clients due to its barristers’ specialised knowledge in this area.’” – Chambers & Partners
Gough Square Chambers is widely recognised for its expertise in financial services mis-selling litigation, acting in some of the most significant mis-selling cases to arise in the UK financial services sector.
Chambers has particular expertise in motor finance mis-selling, with four members instructed for two parties in the Supreme Court case of Hopcraft v Close Brothers Ltd and Johnson v FirstRand Bank Ltd.
Members have also been extensively involved in other large-scale mis-selling issues, including litigation and advisory work arising from payment protection insurance (PPI), the financing of solar panel installations, and disputes relating to pension products and pension transfer advice. Chambers’ work frequently involves regulatory compliance, unfair relationships under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, fiduciary duties, and the interaction between civil claims and the FCA’s regulatory regime.
