Jonathan (“Joe”) Spicer has built on his initial practice at the criminal bar and developed a practice in trading standards and other related areas of consumer law. He has represented local authorities in trading standards prosecutions and has particular experience under the CPUT regulations. Jonathan provided advice to the Chartered Trading Standards Institute on the investigatory powers which are now included in the Consumer Rights Act 2015. He has also provided advice to the National Trading Standards Scams Team on various aspects of their work.

In criminal work, Jonathan has focused on proceeds of crime with a particular emphasis on the recovery of assets located abroad. He has a broad experience in international co-operation and the freezing and confiscation of assets through mutual recognition and mutual legal assistance methods.

Jonathan is presently a Senior Asset Recovery Specialist with the Basel Institute of Governance, Switzerland but continued to provide specialist advice on proceeds of crime and consumer related matters.
