On 12 December 2025, HHJ Carroll, sitting at Teesside Crown Court, sentenced 2 defendants to a total of 5 years and 1 month imprisonment for fraudulent trading arising from their role facilitating £300,000 worth of criminal fish sales over a near 2 year period, predominantly to the elderly and vulnerable. By supplying fish, vehicles and credit, the defendants facilitated the criminal fish sales of door-to-door sellers, many of whom had previously been prosecuted by the team.
The case was brought by the National Trading Standards Regional Investigation Team (North East), hosted by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, following a lengthy investigation.
